Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12 November 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej or now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first person in history to earn a 10. a competition at the Olympics. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi, later to be the Romanian gymnastics coach at the time she was only six years old. Comaneci was the first to compete for time at the national junior championships. She finished 13th. Following that, she was crowned champion. In 1972, during an event for communist-controlled countries' juniors before the Olympics, she took home three gold medals. Then in 1973 and 1974 she won the overall junior champion. In 1975 she was awarded four golds and one silver in her first senior international competition. Lyudmila Torishcheva was a five-time European champion. She was the first woman to ever successfully complete the backwards double salto when dismounting from an uneven parallel bar.
